Sacha Inchi
Also known as Plukenetia Volubilis.
The Sacha Inchi grows up to 2 meters in height with vibrant green vines, leaves, and most importantly, fruits. The fruits grow in small star shapes with 4 to 6 points. They change from green to brown as they ripen, while the seeds/nuts inside are seperated as the star's points stretch outwards. The seeds with a nutty flavour can be used diversely in recipes for sweets, cooked dishes or snacks. Popularly, the seeds are extracted for oil. Sachi Inchi oil is widely known for its richness in fatty acids such as Omega 3. Because of this, the plant is used for a variety of purposes in medicine like the heart health, proper blood pressure, cardiovascular issues, blood circulation, arythmia, central nervous system, brain, sight, hearing and more. This plant can be tracked back into pre-Inca cultures growing in the Peruvian Amazon, as well as Ecuador and Colombia.
