Maiz Morado
Also known as Purple corn.
Maiz Morado is one of many Peruvian corn species, and perhaps the most popular. The corn grows with light green leaves wrapping around its form with a deep purple colour underneath. The juicy corn emits a sweet flavour, leading the plant to be very popular in drinks and desserts. The most prominent recipe being for Chicha morada - a sweet purple corn drink. This plant can be traced back to the Inca civilization in the Andes highlands. Maiz Morado has proven to be beneficial for the cardiovascular system, antioxidants, tissue regeneration, collagen production, high blood pressure, and stress.
